Scout Chess Competition 2006

At an evening of good quality chess with most of the Troops represented the 17th Whitley Bay were the eventual winners and the 8th runners up. Picture shows ADC Scouts, Jonathan Mobberley, with the 2 finalists.

SET Course (Scout Expedition Training)
Pictured are Scouts and Explorers Scouts about to set off from Chesters Cottage on a day hike, which was the culmination of the District run Expedition Training Course. During the course the participants were taught skills ranging from navigation to menu planning and map reading to access and conservation. All the Scouts and Explorers enjoyed the course which they all successfully completed

Chief Scout's Gold Awards

17th Whitley Bay Scouts, Mark Younger, Thomas Brunton and Marrick Mills receiving their Chief Scout's Gold Award badges from Gordon Connicer the Minister of St Andrew's Church during a recent Church Parade.

Josh Mallery and Matthew Wood, both Scouts from the 8th Whitley Bay (St John's) Troop were recently awarded their Chief Scout's Gold Awards by Nigel Sherlock, Lord Lieutenant, Tyne & Wear at a ceremony at Trinity House, Quayside, Newcastle upon Tyne.

In the fantastic setting of Hadrians Wall, Scouts from Whitley Bay and District Scout Climbing Club enjoyed a days climbing at Crag Lough

Around 30 scouts enjoyed kayaking and raft building in Cullercoats Harbour for the annual Water Activity Day.

Cubs and Scouts from groups in Whitley Bay recently enjoyed a taster day in canoeing and sailing at Ladyburn Lake, Druridge.

At a ceremony at County Hall, Morpeth 12 Explorer Scouts from the Whitley Bay & District Unit were presented with Chief Scout's Gold and Chief Scout's Diamond Awards - each being the top award in the Scout and the Explorer Scout sections of Scouting. In presenting the awards the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear, Nigel Sherlock, O.B.E. commented on the high level of commitment and the varying goals reached by each individual but mainly the fun had by working both individually and together in the spirit of Scouting. The picture shows the young people and their leaders from the Explorer Unit, 19th and 8th Whitley Bay Scout Troops.

Annual General Meeting
Smart Scouts from the 11 Troops and Explorer Unit in the District make up the Guard of Honour at our AGM on 19th May.

Our very own Marathon Man Jonathan Mobberley who successfully completed the London Marathon in 3 hours 28 minutes. He came in 5674th.

The first Sailing and Canoeing day of the year took place at Druridge Country Park with 28 scouts enjoying a sunny but breezy day. More days at Druridge Park are planned throughout the year, check out the Diary Dates section.

Members of 18th Whitley Bay Scout Troop football squad who won the Northumberland County Scouts 5 a side Competition held on 19th March 2005

"Congratulations to the 8th Whitley Bay Scouts on narrowly winning the District Scout Quiz and well done to the other teams who took part”.

The picture shows the winning 18th Whitley Bay Scout team in the 2005 5 a side football competition held at Concordia, Cramlington.  Congratulations to all the squad.
