Friends
of Whitley Bay & District Scouts (FOWBADS) 2008
FOWBADS is now entering its fourth
year and membership has increased to 30. Most, but not all of our members
have been at one time active in Scouting and Guiding. We have many years
of experience which we are happy to share however these days continue our
involvement by supporting rather than leading. You'll see us at District
activities wearing our distinctive turquoise neckers.
This year we have been invited
to help at several District events. The Cub & Scout 5 a side football
competitions, Cub & Scout Chess Competitions, the Sunrise Ceremony,
Centenary Camp, our own decorated Easter Egg competition and of course taking
on various roles at Gang Show.
Members have played a large part
in District fundraising at the Book Sale, Spring Coffee morning and the
Raffle. Many of our members also support by serving on various District
sub committees. In March we were co-opted onto the Properties sub committee
for a day to help with a Quarry Centre clean up.
FOWBADS programme would not be
complete without some socialising involving our membership. We all enjoyed
a meal at Shiremoor Farm, some members attended the District Indian meal
and our cultural visits took in Blyth, Newcastle and Whitley Bay Gang shows,
the Scouting Exhibition at the Discovery Museum, four of the various Newcastle
City guided walks and who could ever forget the Explorer's Beetle Drive!
Formally we were represented
at the District AGM, St George's Day Service, Beaver & Cub Carol Service
and the Civic Remembrance Parade.
Cut outs of our left hands were
sent off to be part of the 30,006 left hands on the National Scouts "Great
Big Left Hand Shake" collage which made a Guinness World Record.
Membership of FOWBADS is open
to all who support Scouting and find it impossible to undertake a regular
commitment for whatever reason.
