Explorer Scouting in Whitley Bay

Explorer Scouting is for all members of the Scout Association aged from 14 to 18 years old.

The Explorer Scout Unit is District based and membership numbers currently stand at around 70 so you're bound to know someone! Because of the larger numbers the Unit is able to offer more of a variety of activities to suit all interests. From aerobics to face painting classes, mountain biking to salsa dancing, there's something for everyone.

Explorer Scouts have the opportunity to work towards and ultimately gain their Chief Scout's Platinum and Diamond Awards, and the highest award available to members of the Scout Association, The Queen's Scout Award. The Explorer Scout Unit also offers members the opportunity to achieve the Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze, Silver and Gold Award.

Explorer Awards

At a ceremony at County Hall, Morpeth 12 Explorer Scouts from the Whitley Bay & District Unit were presented with Chief Scout's Gold and Chief Scout's Diamond Awards - each being the top award in the Scout and the Explorer Scout sections of Scouting. In presenting the awards the Lord Lieutenant of Tyne & Wear, Nigel Sherlock, O.B.E. commented on the high level of commitment and the varying goals reached by each individual but mainly the fun had by working both individually and together in the spirit of Scouting. The picture shows the young people and their leaders from the Explorer Unit, 19th and 8th Whitley Bay Scout Troops.
