St.
Georges Craft day
Whitley Bay & District Beaver Scout Colonies
Saturday 25th March our Beaver
Scout Colonies joined together to prepare for St. George's Day. We had 72
Beaver Scouts taking part in various craft activities throughout the afternoon
with the story of St. George being acted by their Colony Leaders. The Beaver
Scout Colonies are very grateful to St. Albans Church, Earsdon, for allowing
us to meet at their Church Hall.
The afternoon commenced with
the Beaver Scouts eagerly visiting the craft bases to make items based on
the theme of St. George.
The bases consisted of:-
" The Shield of St. George
" A Knights helmet
" Knights Armour
" A St. George Flag
" A Sword
" A dragon mask
" Sheep (the dragon had to eat something)
" And a St. George Flag made of biscuit and icing sugar.
Beavers' and Leaders' alike had
great fun. Leaders and Young Leaders joined together to present "The
Story of St. George" with actions. The Leaders themselves had been
working hard throughout the afternoon making their own items to use throughout
the story and judging by the laughter, the Beavers thought their efforts
were great.

Whitley
Bay District
Beaver/Cub Carol Service
Held at St. John's Methodist
Church
Ilfracombe Gardens, Whitley Bay
On 8th December 2005
From 6.30 to 7.30 pm
The 20th Whitley Bay Scout Group,
hosts of the annual Beaver/Cub Carol Service, would like to thank everyone
who attended and took part.
This years Carol Service was
based on "Breaking News Headline", whereby the Broadcasting Beaver
Cub Carol Service - BBCCS for short - brought us News stories of a "mans"
life whose birthday was over 2005 years ago. We started the service with
the colourful spectacle of Beavers and Cubs parading their flags followed
by the good news of District activities, such as the Beaver Scout Goal Shoot
good turn, which raised over £800 and the fabulous reports of our
Cub Packs triumph in the Gang Show.
The Headline news started on
a sombre note, explaining the crucifixion followed by the great news of
his resurrection. The traditional Carols' we sang told us the story of the
Nativity, whilst the Beaver Colonies throughout the District reported stories
of the events, which took place during his life e.g. "The Good Samaritan",
"The Miracles'", "The Unmerciful Servant" and his childhood.
Following each report the Cubs came forward to build the visual setting
of the Nativity scene whilst another Cub summarised the report by reading
the "meaning" within each story. Both Beavers' and Cubs', read
Robert Louis Stevenson's Christmas prayer.
Our thanks go to the Minister
Rev. Paul Cleever-Thorpe for his blessings and for allowing us to use the
Church and Miriam Nicholson for her musical accompaniment. It was also pleasant
to meet with everyone after the event for refreshments in the Church Hall.
Our offertory of £128.49
was donated to the "Great North Air Ambulance Service".

The Beaver Scouts of Whitley Bay held a sponsored goal shoot and raised
£805 for the Harry Bucknall Trust Fund. Harry is a Beaver
Scout with the 9th Whitley Bay Scout Group who has Cerebral Palsy and regularly
travels to the Peto Clinic in Hungary for conductive therapy.

Beavers Flying
High
On 20th March
almost 100 Beaver Scouts and their Leaders descended upon Alnmouth where
they had a great time playing on the park and flying home made kites on
the beach. The sun shone and the wind blew. Copious amounts
of hot chocolate was drunk along with sandwiches, crisps and biscuits.
Everyone agreed that it had been a great day out and the coaches arrived
back in Whitley Bay as planned on the stroke of 4pm.
