Welcome to Whitley Bay District ScoutsWhitley Bay, along with 10 other Scout Districts makes up Northumberland Scout County stretching between the rivers Tyne and Tweed and as far west as Haltwhistle. Details of Scouting in Northumberland can be accessed via the link to the County website. Within Whitley Bay & District there are 11 Scout Groups, each made up of a Beaver Scout Colony (age 5 3/4-8), a Cub Scout Pack (age 8-10 1/2) and a Scout Group (age 10 1/2-14) and a central Explorer Scout Unit for the 14-18 age range. Our Groups are to be found in Cullercoats, Whitley Bay, Monkseaton and Earsdon and meetings are held on all week nights to ensure that there is always an available meeting to join. Week nights are supplemented by many varied weekend activities ranging from visits, camping and other outdoor activities. Scouting is a global, educational youth Movement. In the UK Scouting is organised through the Scout Association and has a clear purpose: To help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as Members of their local, national and international communities. Our aim is for young people and adults in partnership to have fun, make friends and gain life skills. Parents can find out more by clicking on the link to "Scouts". Our District has its own HQ to be found at the entrance to Marden Quarry on the Broadway. We have a very active District with something for everyone with over 100 adults. Some of these are fully trained and qualified to lead hill walking, climbing, swimming, canoeing, sailing, archery and residential activities. We also have an active band of adult supporters with a multitude of skills not just in working directly with young people but by supporting the adults with administration skills, helping with transport and support at events. Scouting first started in Whitley Bay almost a century ago. Today Whitley Bay District has over 650 young members and over 100 adult leaders. As we celebrate the Centenary we would be delighted to welcome more adults and young people to join. . |
